Taken during a trip to the WW2 Normandy invasion beaches, this is one of the two American landing beaches. Due to bad weather and strong tides the landing did not go quite according to plan and the troops suffered appalling casualties and lost a huge amount of equipment. Fortunately they were triumphant in the end.
